Paphos is a coastal town in the southwestern part of Cyprus. In the past, its two parts were called Old Paphos and New Paphos. At present, only the new part is populated.

According to mythology, Paphos is the hometown of Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. Many sites in the city are related to the goddess's name. The best known among them are the Aphrodite Rocks, the  Temple of Aphrodite in Kouklia village, the Baths of Aphrodite and the Fountain of Love. The name of the city is derived from the name of the daughter of Aphrodite and Pygmalion, called Paphos.
